Virgin axe mobile TV service

The five-channel service was launched last year with a £2.5million advertising campaign staring ex-Baywatch actress Pamela Anderson. But Virgin will shut down the service early next year after poor sales of the Lobster700TV handset which is the only mobile that is compatible with the service.

BT can confirm that following a review of its wholesale solutions the decision has been made not to continue with the Movio service BT said in a statement.

Phones 4U to sponsor beach volleyball

The event will see over 200 tonnes of sand laid on the city streets of Edinburgh Birmingham Cardiff and Belfast between July and September.

The retailer will also be showcasing the latest handsets as well as bringing along the beach buggy featured in its latest advertising campaign.

Orange release Blackberry 8820

The device which RIM claims is its thinnest features a trackball navigation system inbuilt GPS enhanced media player and expandable memory.

The 8820 is the first dual-mode BlackBerry handset combining GSM and wi-fi connectivity.

Azzurri scoop award

The division based in New Malden Surrey was voted the best performing out of its 10 offices after exceeding the sales and turnover targets set and received a silver rose bowl from former COO Steve Dalton.

T-Mobile makes Touch available

Otherwise known as the HTC Touch it is also the first handset to have TouchFLO screen technology enabling quick dialling navigation and launching applications.

It also plays music tracks to be played and listened to via the built-in Windows Media Player as well as enabling videos to be viewed on the multi-media player on its 2.8-inch screen.

The handset is now available in T-Mobile stores and is free when purchased on Flext 25 plus webnwalk for £32.50 per month.

Meanwhile T-Mobile has announced more than half a million people are using webnwalk with one million predicted by the end of 2007.

Research findings by the network and YouGov found the type of people using mobiles to browse the web has changed with men over 40 now a minority with younger women and men leading a surge in networking site surfing using Facebook MySpace and Bebo.

Nokia buys Twango

The US based website was founded in 2004 by a group of ex-Microsoft employees and has been sold to Nokia for an undisclosed fee.

The deal will provide an improved platform for Nokia customers to share multimedia content across the Internet.

Nokia Executive Vice President and General Manager of Multimedia Anssi Vanjoki said: The Twango acquisition is a concrete step towards our Internet services vision of providing seamless access to information entertainment and social networks – at anytime anywhere from any connected device in any way that you choose.

Jag opens new store

Vodafone crush rebel shareholders

More than 90% of shareholders voted against the proposals put forward by Efficient Capital Structures (ECS) who own 0.0004% of the operator. ECS had wanted Vodafone to sell its 45% stake in Verizon and return the proceeds to investors in the form of a £34 billion of bonds.

Ofcom appoint new CCO

Ainscough fills the role that was left vacant after Ed Richards appointment as chief executive in 2006. Ainscoughs new role will see her oversee the technology and spectrum operations as well as the groups human resources and finance departments.

Her previous roles include head of marketing at NTL and senior financial analyst for Granada.
