The 10-site pilot will stretch across Queen Victoria Street and pass places such as Bank, Blackfriars, Mansion House and Millennium Bridge

Mobile infrastructure services provider Cornerstone is partnering with UK connectivity infrastructure as a service provider Freshwave to deliver a mobile connectivity pilot to improve the City Corporations small cell communication infrastructure.

Freshwave will upgrade the existing infrastructure in the City of London so it can provide multi-operator 4G and 5G connectivity at street level and this can be used by multiple MNOs.

Fewer devices will be needed on the streets and antennas will be installed on the new infrastructure with telecoms equipment being housed in accompanying cabinets connected via dark fibre.

City-wide deployment delivering fast mobile connectivity across this section of London could be introduced if the pilot is successful.

Freshwave CEO Simon Frumkin said: “The City of London is one of the pre-eminent financial districts in the world and we’re proud to be bringing our leading multi-operator network service expertise to this pilot.”

City of London Corporation Streets and Walkways Committee Chairman, Graham Packham, added: “This new deal will activate a 5G infrastructure pilot to all mobile networks this year which will make the City even more accessible and better connected for visitors, workers and residents.

“It is helping to drive forward momentum in the Square Mile’s recovery from the pandemic and will boost the City’s attractiveness for talent.”
