Nokia and Telecom Egypt launch 5G in major cities

Egypt is finally getting 5G, initially in Alexandria, Aswan, Cairo, Giza, and Luxor.

Nokia will supply its AirScale equipment to Telecom Egypt’s network deploying Massive MIMO radios, baseband units, and remote radio heads, using the energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology. The rollout is scheduled to commence later this year.

Telecom Egypt is Egyp’ts main phone c0mpany, Ut started 1854 with the first telegraph line in Egypt. In 1998, it replaced the former Arab Republic of Egypt National Telecommunication Organization The company has a fixed-line subscriber base of more than six million subscribers.

Earlier this year, Telecom Egypt won the country’s inaugural 5G license, valid for a 15-years. Egypt has approximately 106.2 million mobile phone users up from 99.38 million users in December 2022 according to Daily News Egypt.
