Distributor has put in place requisite processes in past month

SIM distributor GK Telecom is extending its partnership with Vodafone by being named the logistics partner for the operator’s schools.connected initiative.

The initiative will see Slough-based GK, which has been a pay-as-you-go SIM distributor for Vodafone for the past two years, provide technical and logistics support for the scheme, which launches on November 30.

Vodafone is aiming to provide free connectivity to 250,000 children across the UK who are struggling with remote working, or need to continue with their education in the event of needing to self isolate.

The connectivity comes in the form of SIMS with 30GB of data, valid for 90 days. Nottingham Schools Trust has already requested almost 2,000 SIMs for children at 34 schools across the region.

GK is responsible for technical support and maintenance of the online order process, as well as packaging and delivering orders.

Operations director Ravi Navaratnam (pictured, left) said that Vodafone approached GK at the end of October to task it with the logistics for the initiative. The distributor assembled a dedicated project team to ensure the requisite processes are in place.

“We’ve turned this project around in a very short time, and this is a great opportunity for us to supported these disadvantaged kids,” he said.

GK director Gummy Dulku (pictured, right) added: “These are difficult times for everyone and it is more important now than ever before for us to work together to help those in real need.”

Vodafone is also relaunching its Great British Tech Appeal in partnership with charity Barnardo’s over the Christmas period, after successfully donating almost 2,500 devices this summer.
