EE and Chess have both achieved their highest ranking yet in the Sunday Times’ annual list of Britain’s Best Companies.

Now in its 16th year, the yearly survey gathers data from employees working in all sectors throughout the UK. They fill in anonymous questionnaires giving their overall opinions on working conditions, how they think they are valued and more. A total of 241,361 employees participated, with this year’s list having 295 companies in total.

Chess jumped from its debut third place last year to second place in the 100 Best Companies list. The Alderley Edge-based airtime distributor’s 378 staff praised its charitable work, environmentally-friendly offices and various team-bonding lunches and meetings.

EE also saw it achieve its highest rank yet (13th last year 7th) on the 25 Best Big Companies list. It gained the Giving Something Back award for the second year running. It was recognised for charitable activities, such as raising £1m for victims of last year’s Nepalese earthquake.

Gamma jumped from 47th last year to 46th. The Newbury-based company’s 625-strong workforce focused their praises on flexible working hours, health and fitness rewards and the senior management’s leadership skills and openness.
