The P9 has been backed by a £10 million marketing campaign in the UK since its launch in May

Huawei has revealed that it has sold over six million units of its flagship P9 since the handset launched in May this year.

The Chinese manufacturer released the updated figures today (September 6). Huawei had exclusively revealed to Mobile News in June that it had backed the device with £10 million marketing campaign in the UK alone. It included Hollywood celebrities Scarlett Johansson and Henry Cavill, followed later by Brooklyn Beckham, the son of former England International footballer David Beckham.

It is currently available from all four UK operators and Carphone Warehouse. There are three variants in the range; the Lite (£239), standard P9 (£449) and more premium Plus (£549 exclusive from Vodafone). Each is equipped with a dual lens camera made in partnership with renowned German camera maker Leica.

Global sales for the company have grown from 32 million to 108 million (2015) in the last six years. It is the third biggest smartphone maker in the world behind Samsung and Apple, with Q1 market share totalling 8.2 per cent. It is also seventh in the UK with 2.1 per cent share, up from 1.3 per cent, for the three months ending April.
