Vodafone will combine its ‘Vehicle Connect’ with partner Towers Watson’s ‘DriveAbility’ programme to create products for car insurance companies and their customers

Vodafone is partnering with professional services company Towers Watson to develop telematics usage-based insurance offerings for motor insurance companies operating outside of North America.

The alliance means Vodafone’s telematics offer, Vehicle Connect, and Towers Watson’s ‘DriveAbility’ programme, which provides analytical support for insurers that translates to an individual score for each vehicle, will combine to accelerate the pace at which services go to market.

Vodafone and Towers Watson confirmed UK insurance company AIG Europe Limited, part of the international group AIG, has signed up to run a pilot.

With the customer’s prior consent, the solution enables insurers to gather data on driving performance, and to offer customers optional value-added services which could in future include automated emergency calls and the tracking of stolen vehicles.

Insurers will be able to offer ‘try before you buy’ applications for smartphones.

Vodafone director of M2M Erik Brenneis said: “With the global reach of Vodafone and Towers Watson, customers can enjoy a consistent delivery and support model throughout many countries.”
