Speeds over 20 times faster than UK average with Virgin Media’s Gig1
This week, Virgin Media switched on the UK’s fastest broadband with an average peak-time download speed of 1,104Mbps.
Virgin launched the Gig1 Fibre broadband across Southampton as the first step of a national rollout that will see 15 million homes join the service across Great Britain by the end of 2021.
The operator also revealed its most powerful router – the Hub 4, which is capable of delivering gigabit speeds throughout households. The router is the fastest to date and features improved WiFi hardware which allows speedy and reliable connectivity throughout customers homes.
The Hub 4 is intended to be a substantial improvement on the Hub 3 and boasts more antennae, meaning it can manage multiple devices which can share the hyper-fast speed.
Virgin Media’s Chief Operating Officer Jeff Dodds said: “By launching our hyper-fast Gig1 services in Southampton today, we’re marking the start of next-generation gigabit connectivity across our entire network at a speed and scale unmatched by anyone else.
“This service is more than 20 times faster than the UK’s average broadband speed, meaning that households can do everything they want to do online, at the same time, without delay and are well set for whatever comes next. The Government has called for nationwide gigabit connectivity and we’re helping them leap forward to reach this ambition.”
