The company was impressed with BigQuery and saw a shift in performance

Uswitch has turned to Google Cloud to establish its data platform to deliver better experiences for its customers while future-proofing its business model.

Uswitch first trialled Google Cloud in 2015 when the company wanted to migrate from its existing cloud infrastructure and the data team decided to test out BigQuery which is part of the Google Cloud Platform and turns data into valuable business insights.

Since then, Uswitch and its parent company RVU have been purchasing ‘off-the-shelf’ solutions from Google Cloud wherever possible.

Data has been a recent focus for Uswitch and RVU and through Lifetime Value Modelling enabled by BigQuery, the team has identified different customer segments and can respond better to their needs.

RVU head of data engineering Siddhart Dawara said: “Last week, we had 65,000 deals on our website and there’s no way you can expect customers to sift through all of that information.

“BigQuery enables us to display a simplified version of those contract bundles, based on what we know about a potential customer.”

The use of Vertex AI, another platform on Google Cloud, can help personalise customer experiences and is low cost.

Vertex AI plugs into BigQuery as its main source of data and saves on the cost of data egress and enables the team to streamline its data operations across the whole organisation.

Dawara says he hopes to use more Google Cloud tools to help the company respond to ever changing market dynamics.

“We would love to transform every part of the product selection journey that our customers go through, whether that’s understanding more about them or building algorithms that work out the best deals. And Google Cloud is enabling us to do just that.”
