Top Netherlands used iPhone reseller Renewd appoints administrator

Leading used iPhone reseller Renewd has gone into administration. Netherlands legal firm HVG Law, which specializes in technology and telecommunications, is handling the administration.

Renewd issued a statement saying:

“Renewd® has requested a suspension of payments to address the current challenges. Over the coming weeks, we will decide how best to proceed, with a full restart being the preferred option to minimize the impact and focus on what we are good at. Despite these challenges, we remain optimistic and confident in the quality of our products, the strength of our brand, and our exceptional team.

“Renewd has always been committed to the principles of circularity and a positive impact on the environment. Our rigorous inspection process ensures that our certified pre-owned devices meet high standards and contribute to a more sustainable future

Renewd was set up in 2014 in Utrecht, the fourth-largest city in the Netherlands, by Bram Wingens and Jorg Buteijn. In 2010, they were university students and noticed an increasing market for tablet computers.

After university, they set up a tablet retailing operation called YourTablet, and in 2012, they set up YourMacStore. This became the biggest independent Apple reseller in the Netherlands. It was during this period that they found many customers wanted quality used devices backed by a warranty.

Renewd’s niche is to deal only in pristine equipment that does not require any refurbishment. Around 75 percent of devices sold are iPhones. Samsung and Google phones make up most of the balance. Smartwatches account for 20 percent of its sales, and it is also now selling second-hand MacBooks.

A year ago, Renewd launched a stand-alone UK operation aimed at the business market called Renewd for Business to provide UK businesses with quality pre-owned Apple devices, guaranteeing 100 percent original parts and business-class after-sales support.
