Tech Data Mobile “delighted” by Samsung tender win

Distributor was appointed to distribute Samsung Galaxy range as part of distribution review completed last week

Tech Data Mobile has said it is “delighted” after being selected by Samsung as one of the UK distributors for its range of smartphones and tablets.

The Basingstoke-based distributor was chosen along with Exertis, Ingram Micro Mobility and Data Select as part of a distribution tender review completed on June 17.

Samsung had first submitted a “request for information” from its distribution partners in April in a move spearheaded by the manufacturer’s UK and Ireland IT and mobile VP Conor Pierce.

Both Brightstar and Westcoast were dropped as part of the tender, and Tech Data Mobile managing director Peter Hubbard said the move establishes the distributor as one of the most “relevant distributors” in the UK, and the largest Samsung distributor across Europe.

Hubbard said: “Tech Data Mobile is delighted to be selected as a trusted partner for Samsung. This appointment will allow us to build on our long-standing relationship with Samsung and enable Tech Data to consolidate its position as Samsung’s biggest distributor across Europe.

“The Galaxy range is a worldwide success and we intend to deliver a world-class service to our customers. We are looking forward to working closely with Samsung to drive innovative consumer and business solutions.”

iPhone distribution

Mobile News sources also revealed that Tech Data Mobile has recently been selected as one of the first ever official UK distributors of the Apple iPhone, along with Westcoast and IMM.

Though all three distributors declined to comment, Mobile News sources revealed that the trio have been selected to stock the full range of SIM-free devices from next month.

The two agreements mean Tech Data Mobile will be able to sell the full range of the best selling handsets in the UK.

Hubbard added: “Tech Data Mobile is building a value proposition for the future. One that will enable our partners to offer the best mobility devices, software and services and enable them to attract more business, add more value and build a stable and loyal customer base.”
