GSMA estimates there could be up to 2.8bn eSIM connections globally by 2025

Sim Local has teamed up with Vodafone UK to explore opportunities around eSIM technology.

The eSIM specialist will work with the mobile network operator to “explore opportunities to collaborate and drive customer adoption of eSIM technologies”.

A key area of focus around this will be around eSIM travel growth.

It comes as the GSMA estimates that by 2025, over 35 per cent of all smartphone network connections will be made using eSIM.

And this shift from a traditional physical SIM to a digital eSIM download is expected to transform mobile connectivity.

The partnership with Vodafone UK, builds on Sim Local’s existing partners including Giesecke + Devrient (G+D), plus more global retail affiliates.

Revolutionising mobile

Sim Local chief executive officer Killian Whelan said: “eSIM technology is revolutionising the mobile industry at a rapid pace and will transform the way people connect to their everyday devices in the coming years, especially whilst travelling.

“As the travel market rebounds following the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will witness accelerated growth for eSIM both in the UK and across the globe.”

Vodafone UK head of consumer sales Jon Shaw added: “Sim Local is a valued partner and an expert in this space, with whom we have had many years of joint trading.”
