ROKiT specialise in 3D smartphones that can be viewed without glasses
US smartphone vendor ROKiT has marked its UK launch by announcing Brightstar as its UK distribution partner.
The partnership was confirmed during an event held at Williams Racing F1 HQ in Wantage, Oxfordshire, where ROKiT phones CEO Michael Coombes was joined on stage by Brightstar UK managing director Naz Dossa.
ROKiT are the main sponsor for the Williams F1 team, who operate as ROKiT Williams Racing F1.
Earlier this year ROKiT held a global launch for its devices during an event in Los Angeles where it revealed two of the smartphones that will be available in the UK – ROKiT IO 3D and ROKiT IO Pro 3D.
The vendor is part of the ROK Group and focuses its smartphones around 3D services, which includes films as Spiderman and Resident Evil available on the RokFlix 3D app.
Coombes told Mobile News that ROKiT’s unique 3D proposition is what attracted Brightstar to partner with the vendor.
“Brightstar is one of the biggest distributors in the UK and around the world in key European and North American markets. We’ve got something unique in 3D and Brightstar like brands that are different.”
ROK phones sales director Stuart Furnival added: “I believe Brightstar will be able to take us to channel. Brightstar has great reach into retail, online retailer and operators and will help take us to their customers.”
While Brightstar’s Dossa said: “The mobile market has been quite stagnant with not too much innovation. However ROKiT have come up with something a bit different and innovative, with value added services and Glasses-free 3D.
“It seemed a good fit for both parties and we were keen to work with ROKiT. ROKiT has strong ties with big film companies around 3D and content around this. There could certainly be a demographic that will find this content interesting.”
