Six ex-staff members already hired and dealer is inviting applications from more

Vodafone Platinum Partner has thrown a lifeline to several members of Phone 4u staff who lost their jobs following the retailers collapse last week.

Six people have already been hired as part of the initiative and the dealer is inviting more ex-employees to submit their Cvs as part of its current recruitment drive.

“We’re acutely aware of the impact the collapse of Phones4U is having on its dedicated staff, who are finding themselves with an uncertain future through no fault of their own,” said OneCom chief executive Darren Ridge.

“We’re pleased to have been able to take on some of these people in the few days following the collapse of Phones4U. As a growing and actively recruiting company, I’d invite applications from more.”

Administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers announced last night that nearly 1700 jobs would be axed as 362 Phones 4u stores will not reopen.

Vodafone is purchasing 140 of the stricken retailer’s stores saving 900 jobs, while EE announced yesterday (September 22) it was buying 140 stores retaining 359 members of staff.

Additionally, Dixons Carphone assumed control of the 160 Phones 4u concessions outlets in Currys/PC World stores saving 800 jobs.
