Stores will adhere to social distancing guidelines and staff will wear PPE

O2 has confirmed that it will reopen its English stores from June 15 as lockdown eases.

The operator closed its stores across the UK ahead of government guidance on March 24. It is reopening its stores with processes in place to ensure that customers adhere to social distancing and are dealt with as efficiently as possible.

O2’s stores in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will reopen at a later date, pending the advice of their local governments.

The reopened English stores will feature two-metre floor markings, a limit on the number of customers allowed in-store at any one time, and the equipping of all employees with face and hand PPE.

Additionally, all open service areas will have screens, the contactless payment limit has been increased to £45, and customers will be placed in a virtual appointments system so they do not have to wait to be seen.

There is also a priority queue-skip service for NHS and care workers who show a valid ID.

O2’s sales, service and retention director Gareth Turpin said:”Retail has changed in the wake of COVID-19, and we need to make sure we adapt to that change. We have regrouped and worked out how our stores and our tech can be used to help customers and staff. The result is a more personal service which also saves customer waiting time. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to our stores to see the changes for themselves.”

Customers are advised to check O2’s store locator for precise announcements on store openings and hours.

O2’s announcement makes it the second operator to confirm the reopening of its stores in at least part of the UK, after BT/EE last week. Three and Vodafone have not yet confirmed that they will be reopening their stores.
