The move has been made by O2 to support the NHS during the coronavirus battle

O2 has confirmed that it is allowing the NHS to use its O2 Arena free of charge to help train  NHS staff needed in the battle against the coronavirus.

The facility will be used as an NHS training facility between April 12 and June 29, with those workers being deployed to help out at the NHS Nightingale Hospital at the ExCel.

O2 has recently installed additional temporary network capacity at the ExCel to help workers and patients stayed connected during the coronavirus pandemic.

The operator is also providing front line workers with an increased amount of data and call capacity.

O2 CEO Mark Evans said: “Mobile connectivity is more important than ever before and we’re continuing to work hard to keep the country connected.  We’ve seen the highest volume of voice traffic ever carried on our network and we know how important those conversations are.  From providing additional capacity for the NHS, to working with our partners to utilise venues such as The O2, we’re committed to giving customers and key workers the network they need to keep in contact with those closest to them.”
