Low-end device to be priced below £100, making it the cheapest Lumia smartphone to date

The Nokia Lumia 630 will go on sale in the UK across a range of retailers on May 29, costing £89.95 on prepay.

It will be available from Carphone Warehouse, EE, O2, Tesco and Amazon in a range of colours including orange, yellow, green, white and black.

Nokia said the device is its most affordable Lumia smartphone to date since the range made its debut in November 2011.

Announced alongside the flagship Lumia 930 and Lumia 635 smartphones at Microsoft’s Build 2014 event on April, the 630 is powered by a 1.2GHz processor and runs the updated Windows Phone 8.1 operating system.

A highlight of the updated platform is the introduction of virtual assistant Cortana, similar to Siri on Apple iOS devices and OK Google on Android devices. It uses Microsoft’s search engine Bing and data stored on the handsets to make personalised recommendations and perform tasks.

Features on the phone include a 4.5-inch touchscreen, five megapixel camera and 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded by 128GB with a microSD card.

Microsoft Devices UK and Ireland VP Conor Pierce said the Lumia 630 provides a “premium experience at an affordable price point” and that in the company’s opinion, “is the best smartphone in its price range on the market today”.
