Sony selects Micro P after concluding July distribution review – Mobile News understands.
Micro P is set to be named as an official distributor of Sony Mobile devices, after the manufacturer concluded its recent review.
Sony Mobile began a review of its distribution strategy in July, issuing a ‘request for information’ (RFI) to both existing and potential partners.
Sony Mobile president for north-west Europe Pierre Perron told Mobile News in July, the manufacturer would be “selecting the key partners” to enable them to achieve their business ambitions, and to “attack the leaders in the UK smartphone market.”
Sony’s current direct distribution partners include 20:20 Mobile, Tech Data Mobile, Data Select and Ingram Micro Mobility.
However, sources close to Sony say the results of the RFI are now being communicated, with Micro P being successfully added to its partner list.
The addition of Sony would increase Micro P official direct manufacturers to four, having signed deals with Samsung, Nokia, LG and ODM Mojo Maker since entering the mobile space in 2010.
At least one existing partner is understood to have been terminated, the name of which is yet to be confirmed.
