Transition period following Kassler’s October appointment is completed
Phones 4u chief executive officer David Kassler has assumed full executive responsibility for the business, with current group chief executive Tim Whiting stepping back into a non-executive director role.
Deputy group chief executive Phil Dobson will also step back into a non-executive role as the transition period following Kassler’s appointment last October is completed.
Kassler assumes full responsibility at a time when Phones 4u is looking for new business opportunities following the demise of its relationship with Dixons, who will complete its merger with Carphone Warehouse on August 7.
Speculation is rife that independent retailers are feeling the squeeze from operators who are keen to go down their own sales channels. The firm is currently trialling a BE:smart section in some of its stores that will sell other pieces of smart technology, such as wearables, as it seeks out additional revenue streams.
“Tim and Phil have both given over 14 years’ service to the business and I completely understand their desire to create some time for new ventures,” Stefano Quadrio Curzio managing partner of Phones 4u owners BC Partners.
“I am delighted to say they will both remain on the Board and offer their continued support to both BC Partners and to David and the team.”
