HMD Global has begun producing Nokia-branded 5G smartphones in Europe. The first device, the 5G XR21, is now available and aimed at business users while the 302 limited edition versions are for consumers.
The Nokia XR21 is designed to withstand dust, heat, impact, and water and uses recycled aluminium for the phone’s chassis. It is powered by a two-day battery life, which supports more charges over its lifetime.
HMD is releasing 302 limited edition units of the Nokia XR21 for purchase on nokia.com. At £599. The standard Nokia XR21 European Edition starts at £549.
HMD Global is the first major global smartphone manufacturer to start making phones in Europe and is making this move to align with the growing demand for smartphones in Europe predicted to grow seven per cent increase in 2024.
HMD Global CEO Jean-Francois Baril said HMD plans to invest more in software security and offer customized software and security features.
