But Europe is lagging behind other regions
5G connections will account for more than a fifth of mobile connections worldwide by the end of 2025, according to the GSMA.
The figure is set to reach 1.8 billion by then, with the highest adoption in Australia, Japan, Singapore and South Korea, plus North America.
The figures were revealed as part of the GSMA’s 2021 Mobile Economy report, with 21 per cent of all mobile connections to be 5G ones by the close of 2025.
European adoption of 5G by 2025 is predicted to be at 35 per cent, with around 231 million connections.
However, these figures are significantly lower than some other regions, with developed Asia-Pacific at 53 per cent, North America 51 per cent and Greater China 48 per cent.
