SIM distributor GK Telecom has become an MVNO enabling it to offer travel eSIM with phone numbers and support texting and voice calls.
From January, travellers using a GK Telecom travel eSIM will experience roaming as if on their home network, albeit with a different eSIM number. Travel eSIMs are typically data only, requiring users to rely on apps like WhatsApp for messaging and voice.
GK Telecom’s MVNO agreement is understood to be with Three and aims to provide connectivity in over 200 countries.
“We are thrilled to enter the global market as a UK-based MVNO focused on outbound travellers,” said GK Telecom’s managing director Navaratnam Ravi, (main pic left). “This milestone signifies a major step in our mission to provide seamless data, voice, and text services, enabling travellers to stay reliably connected anywhere.”
Director at GK Telecom director Gummy Dulku (main pic right) , added, “Becoming an MVNO allows us to deliver even greater value to our customers. We’re excited to offer not only reliable connectivity but a complete mobile solution for both work and leisure travel. This achievement underscores our dedication to innovation and meeting the needs of today’s global travellers.”
GK Telecom, a distributor for EE, Vodafone, Three, O2, and MVNOs like Giffgaff, Voxi, Smarty, and Lebara, is also introducing eSIM touchscreen kiosks into the travel industry.
Thee kiosks enable travellers to buy eSIMs for use in 160 countries by selecting their destination on a display and scanning a QR code. The kiosks will be located in high-traffic areas across the UK, including hotels, airports, and shopping malls, with GK Telecom seeking retail partners to host them.
