Retailer opens for up to 90 minutes as One S and One X go on sale in the UK

Fonehouse opened 10 stores at midnight today to celebrate the release of the HTC One S and One X handsets in the UK.

The stores, which included three in London (Angel, Wimbledon and Clapham), were open for between 60 and 90 minutes. It’s the first time Fonehouse has had a midnight opening for a new handset release.

Fonehouse said the openings generated over 800 customer leads, 23 handset sales and the addition of 223 ‘likes’ on its Facebook page.

Fonehouse commercial director Daniel Schama said: “The handsets were really well received. Customers were wowed by the screens on both handsets, the responsiveness and quality of the camera.”

The One X is powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz processor and has a 4.7-inch HD touchscreen, eight megapixel camera and 32GB of internal memory.

The One S is HTC’s thinnest smartphone to date and 7.9mm thick. It is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and has a 4.3-inch HD touchscreen, eight megapixel camera and 16GB of internal memory.

Both run off the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and feature HTC Sense 4.0 – the latest upgrade to the manufacturer’s own user interface on devices.
