Men are two times more likely than women to conceal their mobile bills
More than five million (5.3m) Brits have admitted to hiding their mobile phone bill from their partners.
This is according to a survey conducted by price comparison service uSwitch.com on 2,0005 adults from March 23 and 26.
A gender divide was discovered with 66 per cent of men more likely to be secretive than women. More than one in seven men (15pc) admitted to hiding mobile phone bills from their partners, while only nine per cent of women have done so.
However, women are almost twice as likely to conceal their bills due to avoid explaining certain items (32pc) than men (17pc).
The top reason for hiding bills from a partner was belief that ‘its none of their business’ (50pc), not wanting them to see specific items on their bill (23pc), guilt about overspending (22pc) and not wanting an argument (9pc).
Almost one in three Londoners (28pc) have admitted hiding their bills in the past. More than a third of this figure (35pc) have done so to cover up certain items on their bills, while a quarter felt guilty about overspending.
Residents in the South East of England are the most honest when it comes stating mobile statements with their significant others. 18-34 year olds are seven times more likely to hide their bills than those aged 55 plus.
uSwitch.com mobiles expert Ru Bhikha said: “There are plenty of reasons that people may want to hide their mobile phone bill, and generally, it’s a harmless desire for privacy. It’s perfectly acceptable to want to keep personal finances to yourself, but it’s important to remember to check your bills before burying them away.
