EE and Vodafone have suspended the Exchange Programme after recent reports of faulty replacement Note7 devices

BT owned EE has suspended the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Exchange Programme following various incidents of replacement devices catching fire.

Recipients of the Note7 will be offered the S7 edge or a different handset of their choice. No other restrictions were mentioned by EE, suggesting even the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus can also be alternatives.

An EE spokesperson said: “Following recent media reports of further Note7 issues in the US and Canada, we have suspended Note7 exchanges and are currently in direct contact with Samsung regarding next steps on the matter.”

Rival operator Vodafone has also taken action on the recent incidents. “We have paused pre-orders of the Note7 as well as our device replacement programme until such time that we receive satisfactory assurances from Samsung about the safety of the Galaxy Note 7.”

An O2 spokesman told Mobile News: “We are currently in discussions with Samsung and reviewing our options.” The UK network ceased sale of the Note7 since Samsung announced the Exchange Programme.

Samsung itself has reportedly halted Note7 production in factories in Vietnam, as it “adjusted production schedule.”

The manufacturer initiated the Exchange Programme on September 19 in the UK and Ireland following the recall announcement on September 2 by the Korean manufacturer.

Mobile News has contacted Three and Virgin for more information.

US networks AT&T and T-Mobile stated over the weekend they will not exchange the Note7, both networks are also halting sale of the device.

“While Samsung investigates multiple reports of issues, T-Mobile is temporarily suspending all sales of the new Note7 and exchanges for replacement Note7 devices,” T-Mobile said on its website.
