EE replaces all store tills with new point-of-sale tech for staff to process sales from one device

EE has removed fixed tills from its stores and replaced them with new cloud-based point-of-sale (POS) technology following a six-week pilot across 15 stores.

The new system will allow EE store staff to complete all sales, service, and operational processes from a single device, including a smartphone, instead of multiple devices for different tasks.

The POS software, developed by Aptos, is being rolled out to EE’s more than 400 stores as part of an IT refresh across its retail estate. The software can run on mobile devices that EE’s guides can use throughout the store.

EE says the system will allow retail staff to spend more time with shoppers while also helping to reduce shop crowding and queues.

Following the launch of its flagship EE Studio in Westfield London, White City, in June 2023, and subsequent Experience stores, EE will be opening more than 10 Experience and Experience Local stores between now and next March (below)

EE retail director Asif Aziz, said: “We’re reinventing the role of retail in the telco industry by putting customer experience, innovation, and community front and center. We are embracing store formats that blend physical and digital experiences. We knew we had to rethink the in-store shopper journey. Aptos was the right POS partner to bring our vision to life. Our store guides are now able to spend even more time focusing on the needs of our customers.”

Zaki Hassan, General Manager for EMEA and APAC at Aptos, commented: “EE stores have transcended beyond a traditional phone shop. If you want to see the future of retail, simply step into EE’s Studio and Experience stores. We are delighted to have Aptos’ POS being rolled out across the EE retail estate.”
