MD Donovan describes VR as the “Christmas present for this year” as the segment continues to grow

Data Select is selling around 2,000 virtual reality products each month as interest in the technology continues to gather pace.

The distributor is currently selling five VR headsets from five different manufacturers: Samsung Gear VR (pictured), Zeiss VR One, Freefly VR, Onebutton VR-Wow and Ricoh Theta S.

The Platinum Club conference in Marlow on March 17 also featured a VR Zone where attendees could try out the latest products and experience VR for themselves.

Data Select managing director Fergal Donovan said: “[This] will be the Christmas present of the year. We’re selling something in the region of 2,000 a month. It may be a little less of an interest to our enterprise customers but we also have a lot of our retail partners present.”

According to forecast figures released by TrendForce, the total value of the global virtual reality market could almost grow tenfold over the next four years from $7.6 billion this year to $70 billion in 2020.
