Milton Keynes is the latest Gigabit city to experience broadband speeds of up to 1,000Mbps in addition to Peterborough, Coventry, York, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow

Businesses and schools across Milton Keynes will have access to broadband speeds of up to 1,000Mbps following CityFibre’s installation of 160km of fibre optical cabling in the city.

CityFibre, who specialises in the build and installation of broadband cables, announced the news today (July 5). The broadband speeds will be available to Milton Keyne’s 229,000 residents and 100 educational establishments.

The company is working in partnership with Northampton-based telecommunications provider dbdb and Bradford-based Exa networks to sell the high-speed broadband services in the area. Milton Keynes is the latest city to benefit from such speeds, in addition to Peterborough, Coventry, York, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

CityFibre CEO Greg Mesch said: “We’re thrilled to be announcing Milton Keynes as our next Gigabit City. Despite leading the way in smart city thinking, this city is yet another example of those still strangled by poor digital connectivity. Our pure fibre network, now available to businesses through our partners at dbfb, will catapult Milton Keynes to be alongside some of the best connected cities in the world.”
