Cellhire is providing 12,000 mobile data connections at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics games.

The York-based firm which specialises in providing mobile and IoT communications, is providing mobile data connections to global media organisations, athletes and attendees at the Olympics.

The media organisations, which includes a range of mediums from TV to print newspapers are utilising large data bundles through Cellhire SIM cards, smartphones, mobile hotspots and other telco services to broadcast and report in real-time.

And through Cellhire’s data bundles athletes are able to communicate with their families back home.

Cellhire will also provide a similar service at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar next year.

This will done by building on solid partnerships with network providers China Unicom and Ooredoo.

Cellhire Group chief operating officer Tim Taylor said: “We have an excellent track record in the global sports and entertainment fields for providing data connections and telecom solutions through the close relationship we have with network providers around the world.

“In total, we have provided many tens of thousands of connections at major events, allowing the media to have reliable and secure data communications to live-broadcast to their audiences.”
