Anthony Hemmerdinger leaves just a year and a half after joining to oversee retail estate

Carphone Warehouse (CPW) retail director Anthony Hemmerdinger has left the firm after just 18 months.

Hemmerdinger, who joined the firm from Sainsbury’s, was responsible for CPW’s 800 plus retail estate.

CPW said Hemmerdinger resigned from the firm after receiving an “external” offer he “could not refuse”.

The firm refused to confirm which company he is moving to or whether he will remain in the mobile industry.

A CPW spokesperson said: “Anthony has made a fantastic contribution to the business and we are sorry to see him go.”

CPW UK managing director Matt Stringer, who appointed Hemmerdinger in March 2011, added: “Anthony has been integral in leading a very high- quality retail function that has achieved unsurpassed levels of customer service and opera- tional control.

“He has built a cohesive and committed leadership team and enjoyed a high degree of respect and affection from colleagues in stores.”

CPW said it will announce Hemmerdinger’s replacement in the coming weeks.
