Carphone says Galaxy S5 interest ‘130 per cent’ up

More than double the amount of pre-registrations for the Samsung Galaxy S5 than its predecessor

Carphone Warehouse said that interest in the Samsung Galaxy S5 is already ahead of what it received for last year’s S4 handset.

The retailer says it indicates a “record breaking” launch for the S5, as the figure has been reached after just three days of pre-registration, compared to the whole ten day period for the S4 launch.

“Samsung has clearly built up a very loyal fanbase and the Galaxy S5 looks set to become one of the biggest selling handsets ever,” said Carl Cowling, managing director Carphone Warehouse.

The company wouldn’t provide any specific detail on the amount of people who had registered their interest when asked by Mobile News.

Samsung would be delighted if the S5 saw anywhere near the same level of interest as its sister device. All the major retailers and operators were unable to fulfil pre-orders at the time of the S4 launch last year, when the handset went on to sell more than 10 million units in its first month.
