Retailer’s stats show almost a third of sales are coming from people switching from an iPhone, while 90 per cent of buyers would recommend the device to others

Carphone Warehouse has revealed that 30 per cent of its Samsung Galaxy S4 sales are from customers moving from using an Apple iPhone.

The manufacturer’s flagship handset for this year launched on April 27, following up on Samsung’s bestselling Galaxy S III smartphone from last year, which as seen sales top more than 40 million units.

On May 23, Samsung revealed it had sold more than 10 million Galaxy S4s in less than a month, estimating it to be selling at a rate of four units per second.

It set a new record for Samsung, selling quicker than any of its predecessors. The Galaxy S III reached the 10 million mark 50 days after its launch last May, while the Galaxy S II took five months and the Galaxy S seven months to achieve the milestone.

Carphone Warehouse customer solutions group director Claire Winstanley also revealed that nine tenths of Galaxy S4 customers said they would recommend the device to others.

“We’ve seen phenomenal demand for the Samsung Galaxy S4 since its launch in April. Customers are demanding a wider choice of handsets from manufacturers and Carphone Warehouse stats show that 30 per cent of our S4 sales were from customers moving from an iPhone to an S4. Customers who’ve made the change love their S4 handsets and 90 per cent of them have said they would recommend them to a friend or family.”
