Carphone launches app to monitor call, text and data usage

Android and Blackberry app Bill Angel will alert customers when they are reaching their monthly limit

Retailer Carphone Warehouse has launched a free smartphone app to alert people when they are approaching their contracted call, data and text limit, following a successful pilot scheme in May.

The Bill Angel app is initially available on Android with the iOS version, which just measures data, out tomorrow (June 27) and the Blackberry version due in July.

“Data use is continuing to skyrocket and more and more customers are now regularly overspending on their bill by exceeding monthly data limits,” said chief commercial officer of Carphone Warehouse, Graham Stapleton. “We have created the Bill Angel app to offer people a simple way to track their mobile phone usage, alerting them before reaching their tariff limits and helping them avoid additional charges.

“We’ve deliberately kept Bill Angel as easy to use as possible, consumers simply enter their allowance details and the app will automatically monitor activity, alerting when the phone is reaching any limit and then again once that limit is reached. It can also provide helpful graphs that show activity over time – either by day, week or month – allowing for convenient usage tracking which could later be used as a base to determine the best possible tariff for that customer.”
