Strong commercial demand the key driver for solid sales
The PC market has continued its growth as shipments jumped 13 per cent during Q2 2021.
In total 82.3m units were sold during the quarter, compared to 72.9m units during the same quarter last year, according to analyst firm Canalys.
But Canalys say the demand has been due to commercial sales for recovering businesses rather than pandemic-driven urgency for those remotely working.
All five of the top five vendors grew during the quarter, with Lenovo sales accounting for nearly a quarter of total market share (24.3pc) with 20m shipments.
HP occupied second spot with 18.5m units (22.6pc share), followed by Dell with 13.9m sales (17pc).
Apple with 6.4m (7.8pc) and Acer with six million (7.3pc share) completed the top five.
Strong
Canalys research director Rushabh Doshi says that the PC market “could not be in a better position.”
“The slowdown in consumer demand, stemming from fulfilment of backlogs and greater market penetration, has been nicely balanced by growing commercial demand, as markets around the world limp back to normality.
“PC vendors now have two key business opportunities – first-time PC users and upgraders. With the installed base having blown up massively in the past year, upgrade opportunities will provide a strong long-term sales pipeline.”
