The Taiwanese manufacturer claims the watch’s step counter has ‘industry leading’ accuracy of up to 95 per cent

ASUS has launched the ZenWatch 3 wearable, which it claims has an ‘industry leading’ fitness tracker and charge times.

The Taiwanese manufacturer launched the water resistant device (pictured) today (August 31) at IFA in Berlin. It comes with a fitness logger that sends daily exercise reminders and can track activities such as walking, running and push ups. ASUS claims the step counter has ‘industry leading’ accuracy of up to 95 per cent.

Battery life

According to ASUS, the watch has up to two days of battery life and can be charged up to 60 per cent in an ‘industry leading’ 15 minutes. An optional battery pack designed to give an additional 40 per cent charge is also available. The product is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor which has been specifically created for smart watches. This optimises and increases overall battery life, according to ASUS.

It is the first ASUS wearable to come with a 9.95mm rounded case crafted from stainless steel. The material has been designed to be 82 per cent stronger than conventional steel. Three finishes are available; gunmetal, silver and rose gold. Various strap choices are also on offer, including Italian leather or rubber. Both straps can be bought in dark brown or beige colours.

Display

The display is a 1.39-inch AMOLED touch screen made of Gorilla Glass designed to withstand more bumps and scratches than a conventional glass face. Users can customise the screen with a choice of over 50 designs. Each can accommodate information on the weather and missed calls. Custom watch faces can also be created.

Qualcomm Technologies International senior VP and GM of IoT Anthony Murray said: “This is a powerful and fashionable new wearable that has evolved through years of close collaboration between ASUS and Qualcomm.

“We are excited that the new ASUS ZenWatch 3 is one of the first wearable products to take advantage of the new Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, bringing unique capabilities to ASUS customers.”

ASUS has not yet confirmed UK pricing or availability.
