LG G3 smartphone to come preinstalled with McAfee Mobile Security

LG has teamed up with security software firm McAfee to provide mobile ‘anti theft’ security on the G3 smartphone – launching next month.

The software, which comes preinstalled, will enable users to disable and remotely wipe their handset in the event of it being lost or stolen, using a secure online account.

It will also include a ‘Kill Switch’, which disables the device entirely – deeming the device useless. The software is valid for five years. LG said the deal was a ‘multi year agreement, which is expected to be offered on further device models as and when they launch.

LG head of smartphone planning Dr. Ramchan Woo said: “We are working with McAfee to offer a customised version of its award-winning mobile security software (full price £14.99 per year) that leverages built-in LG capabilities to make security an integral part of LG G3.

“The implementation of the Kill Switch feature is just one of several specific measures we are taking to ensure that our users can easily and comprehensively protect themselves from the growing threat landscape, both physical and online.”

The announcement comes amid growing concerns surrounding security threats against Android run handsets – of which the G3 is one.

Android targeted malware  rose 197 per cent between December 2012 and December 2013, according to McAfee.
