Distributor combines with CANAI for offering to mobile reseller channel

Ingram Micro Mobility has launched its first handset recycling and buy-back proposition for the mobile reseller channel.

The distributor, formerly Brightpoint, has partnered with High Wycombe-based electronics recycler CANAI for the new programme, which went live last week. It is the first recycling offering from Ingram Micro Mobility since its $650m (£387 million) acquisition of Brightpoint in 2012.

The programme is designed to enable resellers in B2B, retail and manufacturers, the ability to provide financial incentives to customers by trading in their existing handsets and tablets – with the value of that device used in conjunction with a new deal.

Resellers will have the ability to launch their own fully-customised white label website to promote the proposition, promoting deals and trade-in values available. The online platform offers full audit and tracking capabilities, environmental compliance and full POS IT systems integration.

Ingram Micro said it had already received a “significant” level of interest in the programme with a number of partners in the process of launching the service in their business. Names were however unavailable at press time.

CANAI, formed in 2001, provides recycling services in more than 6,000 locations across five continents. Both CANAI and Ingram will manage all backend and logistical services for partners. Handsets and tablets traded in will either be recycled for parts or refurbished and sold into other markets.

Ingram Micro Mobility Europe president Jac Currie said: “We continue to add value to both our reseller customers striving to drive incremental revenue, and for mobile device vendors seeking to maximise their products’ value.”
