VodafoneThree hails its first commercial 5G slicing service

VodafoneThree has launched its first publilcly-availlable 5G network slicing product.

Called SuperMobile, it will offer customers up to four times faster speeds than the regular network, with tailored packages and performance commitments. Customers will be able to choose enhanced performance even when the network is busiest.

Vodafone SuperMobile is tangible evidence of what the Vodafone and Three merger makes possible: better connectivity and real choice for customers,” said VodafoneThree CEO Max Taylor (main pic).

SuperMobile is super-fast, super-reliable and super-secure. Ideal for consumers watching content on-the-go, AI applications or businesses looking to benefit from digital transformation.”

This follows the launch two weeks ago of EE’s Fast Lane, which moved 5G standalone slicing from technology demonstration to commercial product. Fast Lane gives eligible consumer and small-business customers priority when EE’s network becomes congested, automatically moving their traffic onto a dedicated 5G+ slice.

VodafoneThree’s new service separates participating business traffic from consumer demand and promises up to four times faster speeds. It works with compatible standard business smartphones.

The development means EE and VodafoneThree are both beginning to monetise different qualities of connectivity over the same network, rather than just competing on coverage, handset subsidies, data allowances and price.

VodafoneThree is also launching Vodafone TV, a plug-in entertainment hub with 4K picture quality, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos built in. It comes with Netflix and HBO Max included, plus more than 150 live TV channels, 300 games and thousands of additional content apps through the Google Play Store.

Vodafone TV will be available from October to new and existing Vodafone customers with a home broadband, 5G Broadband or mobile plan.

Customers on the move can pair Vodafone TV with the new Vodafone SuperMobile service for uninterrupted streaming away from home.
