Accessories on trial

They often say that one of the most difficult things a company has to face is success and Chessingtons Genuine Solutions is no exception. By the time it finally happened, the accessory distributors move to bigger and better premises was long overdue.

Things had become so disorganised, admits Genuine Solutions marketing manager Danny Lack. We had stock in our warehouse, we had stock in another hired-out unit, as well as a load in a separate warehouse. Logistically, we were holding it together. But we required more room for stock to keep up with the companys growth, and we needed to move to bigger premises in order to move the business forward.

Genuine Solutions moved from its old 2,000 square foot base in Chessingtons Barwell Business Park to a new business unit five times its size in May. The new unit, which is on the same trading estate, incorporates a new sales floor and a dedicated space for IT, marketing and administrative functions.

The wisdom of the move, in terms of volume of business, has already been borne out. McBride says Genuine is already doing 40 per cent more business in the new premises, and expects this to rise further.

But as ever, theres a downside to success. Majithia points out that, at the same time, overheads have gone through the roof thanks to both bigger premises and bigger volumes of business. Its the little things, too stationery and paper and postal costs, says Majithia. But the success were having at the moment and our ability to cope with the sudden increase in costs demonstrates the good business were doing, and the increased capacity we have now.
