LG appoints Voda man as marketing head

Alex Windle joins the company as its head of marketing for mobile in the UK and Ireland, replacing Jeremy Newing

LG has appointed former Vodafone head of partner marketing Alex Windle as its new UK and Ireland head of marketing for mobile.

Windle replaces Jeremy Newing, who exited the company late last year. He will report LG Electronics UK and Ireland marketing director Paul Trueman and will also work closely with LG Mobile UK general manager Jim Michel.

Windle spent eight years at Vodafone. His most recent role was head of partner marketing, which he held for a year, and was accountable for all strategic marketing through, to and with Vodafone’s indirect channel partners in the UK.

He also held a number of other positions at the operator, including head of product, head of mobile and email apps, senior channel marketing programmes manager, service and brand manager, customer propositions manager and CRM campaigns manager.

Newing left LG as part of a reshuffle at the company that later saw former Motorola UK and Ireland general manager Jim Michel replace outgoing sales and marketing director John Barton. Michel was later promoted to the position of LG Mobile general manager.

LG has also launched the Town C300 handset, aimed at social networking enthusiasts. The phone will be available shortly through Orange, Phones 4U and Tesco but pricing has yet to be revealed.

The latest addition to the  comes with a 2.4-inch screen and QWERTY keyboard, as well as dedicated Facebook, Twitter and MSN clients. Social Networking System widgets provide real-time status updates directly to the home screen. It also includes a two-megapixel camera.
