The two operators are understood to be in talks with Virgin Media to provide customers with Wi-Fi on the London Underground
Vodafone and EE are understood to be in talks with Virgin Media to provide free Wi-Fi on the London underground.
Virgin currently provides broadband to over 70 tube stations. It uses a network owned by T-Mobile, which in 2010 merged with Orange to form EE, to do so.
EE posted a tweet earlier saying: “Travel on the tube? From early 2013, EE customers will be able to get free Wi-Fi access on the London Underground at no extra cost. Details soon.”
The tweet has since been removed. An official statement from EE says: “We’re always looking at ways to improve the service we offer our customers. However, we have nothing to announce at this time.”
Mobile News has been informed that Vodafone is also in talks with Virgin.
