US judge finds Apple guilty of fixing ebook prices
Apple continues to deny charges and says it will fight the “false allegations”
A US federal judge has ruled that Apple conspired with publishers to raise the price of ebooks on its iBookstore platform.
Manhattan District Judge Denise Cote went on to order a new trial to determine damages. Apple was the lone defendant in the trial after five publishers who were initially accused settled for more than $166 million combined.
An Apple spokesperson said that Apple had “done nothing wrong” and “will appeal the judge’s decision”.
The decision marks a major victory for the US Department of Justice and the 33 US states that brought the antitrust case, who claimed that the collusion began in late 2009 and carried on into early 2010 in line with Apple’s launch of the first iPad.
