3 has today announced four new organisations have joined its Terminate the Rate campaign to lower mobile termination rates between mobile and fixed line calls.
3, who last month announced the campaign has been backed by more than 100,000 people, confirmed it has now been backed by children’s charity ‘4Children’, financial advice company the ‘Institute of Money Advisors’, family care helpers ‘Crossroads Care’ and business advice website ‘Moneymagpie.com.’
The campaign, which was launched up by 3 and BT in May, was set up to pressure Ofcom to lower the mobile termination rate fees charged by mobile network operators for connecting calls from other networks, including fixed line. It has so far been backed by more than 100,000 people.
3 claims the cost charged to the network, which is currently 4.7p per minute, when a customer connects a call to a different network, is artificial and should be less than a penny.
The cost to 3 has been more than £200 million since it begun trading. In 2008, operators charged more than £750 million for connecting calls.
