Orange wins jackpot with Vegas

Orange’s prepay handset, the Vegas, has been the most successful own-brand handset it has launched, devices director Francois Mahieu claimed.

Orange has sold more than 100,000 units since it launched in April this year and is priced at £49.99 on prepay.

The original design manufacturing (ODM) touchscreen handset was designed by ZTE, and is the same design as T-Mobile’s Vairy.

Mahieu said T-Mobile’s version of the device has not been as successful because of Orange’s price point being more attractive.

“The Vegas has been a phenomenal success,” said Mahieu.

“We got the positioning right. At the time of launch, where else could you buy a touchscreen mobile for £49.99?

“The most important thing is to make attractive handsets more attractive by making them affordable.

“We found a gap in the market and addressed it.”
