Office of Fair Trading looking into Carphone Best Buy deal

The Office of Fair Trading is to examine the joint venture between The Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy to determine whether the move would lessen competition in the market.

The body is seeking written feedback until June 3, from which it then has 30 days to make a decision. It could then refer the companies to the Competition Commission for investigation.

A spokesman said all merger situations which fell under the Enterprise Act 2002 were subject to such an examination.
