Purchase of manufacturer’s devices and services business comes seven months after it was first announced
Microsoft will complete the acquisition of Nokia’s devices and services business for €5.4 billion (£4.5 billion) this Friday (April 25).
The announcement was made this morning by the Finnish handset manufacturer, which said the transaction is now subject only to certain customary closing conditions.
A leaked memo, seen by Mashable, suggests that the acquired business will be renamed Microsoft Mobile. As part of the deal Microsoft paid for the rights to use the Nokia name for ten years, as well as the Lumia and Asha brands.
The acquisition, which was first announced on September 3, 2013, received regulatory approval from the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China on April 8.
This followed regulatory approval from the European Commission and US Department of Justice.
