Irish telecoms regulator ComReg has cut wholesale number porting charges between networks by up to 90 per cent for mobile and 70 per cent for fixed.
Number porting charges are made by telephone operators whenever a mobile or fixed customer wants to switch provider and keep their number.
The decision sets out that a mobile network operator cannot charge in excess of €2.05 (£1.85) to another mobile operator when a customer moves. Similarly, fixed operators cannot charge more than €4.02 to other fixed providers when customers port.
ComReg chairman John Doherty (pictured) said: “The reduction in portability charges is part of ComReg’s overall commitment to encourage further competition in the mobile and fixed market.”
