Streetlights go smart to boost Oxford mobile coverage

Oxford’s streetlights are being transformed into mobile signal boosters.

A collaboration between mobile infrastructure provider Cornerstone and lighting technology company Signify will install 5G-ready small cells on lampost which wiill double as mobile signal boosters, providing enhanced coverage without the need for new infrastructure.

The deployment uses BrightSites by Signify and Dense Air’s cellShare technology to build a scalable network that supports 4G, 5G, and future connectivity needs.

By turning street lighting into connected infrastructure, we’re enabling cities to grow smarter without growing messier,” said Khalid Aziz, SVP at BrightSites by Signify.

Our Oxford deployment is a prime example of how we’re working with local authorities to transform urban infrastructure and create more connected communities,” added Pat Coxen, CEO at Cornerstone.
