Phone is available for pre-order from today
Sky Mobile has announced it will offer the new Fairphone 3 in the UK.
The Fairphone 3 is the latest smartphone from Dutch company Fairphone, which specialises in ethical handset design and production. The phones are also made with Fairtrade gold and conflict-free tin and tungsten, as well as recycled copper and plastic.
Part of this includes a modular design, which allows for individual phone parts to be replaced, reducing the cost of repairs.
The Fairphone 3 runs on Android 9 Pie software with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset and 4GB of RAM. It has a 3,000mAh battery, a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera.
It is available for pre-order from today, with a general release on September 3. Pricing starts from £21 per month on Sky’s Swap 24 plan, or £30 per month on Swap 12, with 2GB of data and unlimited calls and texts.
Sky Mobile director Sophia Ahmad said: “At Sky, we’re committed to creating a plastic-free future for our oceans by removing all single-use plastic by 2020 and ensuring high ethical standards are maintained across the business and our supply chain. It’s why we’re working with Fairphone, to give our customers the option to choose a sustainable mobile phone.”
Fairphone’s CEO Eva Gouwens added: “We envision an economy where consideration for people and the planet is a natural part of doing business. This is why we are creating scalable and replicable models in our impact areas for the industry and improve our supply chain and products step by step. But we cannot do this alone or overnight. To make lasting change possible, we need to transform the industry. The strongest signal that we can send is that there is a market for more sustainable products, which is why we developed the Fairphone 3 to be a real sustainable alternative on the market.”
