More Nokia R&D cutbacks

Nokia has announced it is to make further cutbacks in its Japan research and development sites, following an announcement less than a week ago about redundancies in its Danish and Finnish centres.

The company said that the new cutbacks are in line with its global efforts to align R&D operations to be in line with its focused portfolio of future products.

Around 220 employees in Japan will be affected. The total number would represent just over one per cent of Nokia’s R&D personnel globally.
 
The Japanese operation of Nokia Siemens Networks, Nokia’s network infrastructure business, is not affected by this announcement and continues uninterrupted.
 
Vertu, Nokia’s luxury line of handsets, will also continue operations in Japan and is unaffected by the announcement.
